The Power of Persistent Prayer

Many of us get weary when we do not see the results of our prayers. We get dejected and upset that God is not listening to us. We lose heart and give up praying. We start thinking and speaking of all the negative things that could happen when our prayers are unanswered. We look onto our future as a distant dream.

But the parable of the persistent widow in book of Luke 18: 1 to 8 says otherwise. There was this old widow who kept coming to a judge asking him to give justice against her adversary. This judge was a kind of man who neither had fear in God nor respected man. And he kept refusing her the due justice to be given. But this widow was persistent in her efforts, pestering him daily with her request.

So this judge said to himself “Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice so that she will not beat me down with her continual coming”.

This widow could have also been like us worrying that her due justice was getting delayed. She could have fretted and fumed of the wrong done to her by her adversary. She could have sat depressed and stressed that her efforts were being wasted. She could have been angry at the judge for ignoring her. But the only thing she did was, being hopeful and being persistent to pester the judge enough that he gave her justice without delay. Even the unrighteous judge was moved by her persistence which ran like a river through his heart of rock.

Jesus says, “if an unrighteous judge can do that, will not God listen to the prayers of those who cry to him daily”?  Note the point that he says “daily”. It means not one day, not two days, not a week but daily. Staying consistent in our efforts to pray everyday is very important. Though it may take God’s time, God is sure to do it. He even goes on to say that he will give us answers quickly.

Praying persistently has the power of God working in our daily life(Micah 7:7).It will strengthen us as we wait with faith expecting God to show up. When we pray without giving up, God will certainly answer our prayers!

Therefore my dear brothers and sisters, Pray persistently, Have faith and Never give up! God will do wonders in your life like never before! God bless You!
