LESSON LEARNT FROM PETER AND JUDAS

Simon Peter was one of the most talked disciples in the new testament and Judas Iscariot was the least spoken one. Throughout the book, Peter seemed to be the most talkative, most questioning and most popular. He identified who Jesus was, he tried to imitate Jesus by walking on water, he took Jesus to his home and much more. On the other hand, the only thing we see about Judas or the only incident was how he became a traitor.

Though both the disciples cannot be compared, there is one similarity between both of them. Both of them betrayed Jesus. Peter denied Jesus thrice that he didn’t know who Jesus was when the servants of the chief priest house questioned him when Jesus was arrested. Judas betrayed Jesus by handing him over to the chief priests to be arrested.

Though both of betrayed Jesus, there is a difference in both of their attitude. Having handing over Jesus to be arrested and crucified for 30 pieces of silver, Judas suddenly realized his mistake and having no power to do anything about it, he went and hanged himself. Peter on the other hand, after denying Jesus thrice vehemently, when Jesus crossed him and gave him that look, “I told ya”, Peter realized his terrible mistake and wept bitterly.

The most talkative and cowardly Peter, after he repented and spoke with Jesus after the resurrection, went ahead to become one of the most powerful apostles of all time. Miracles and wonders happened even when his shade passed through. His one sermon after being filled with holy spirit, brought 3000 people to Christ. How this happened? He repented and he portrayed his fruits of repentance. He had been with Jesus a whole 3 yrs and that did not go in vain. He obeyed the commandments of God and the fruits of repentance, obedience and service for Christ was evident in his life later.

What do we learn from Peter and Judas? We also sin and betray Jesus. What kind of attitude we have after sinning? Are we like Judas by hiding and ultimately destroying ourselves? Or are we like Peter who repented and portrayed fruits of repentance? We should release the “Judas” kind of attitude and restore “Peter” kind of attitude.God is just and forgiving to release us from our sins and bring us to greater glory. Do not hesitate my dear friends, Repent of your sins now and come to Christ. He is waiting with his open arms to embrace you his love and fill you with his blessings! Your life will never be the same again! Amen! God Bless You!
