If there is one organ of the body of which we do not have control sometimes, it would be our Tongue! Though it is one of the smaller organs, yet its usage is vital. With it we taste and talk and it aids in chewing and swallowing. The most important work of the tongue is, it helps us to talk or otherwise produce words! It is a powerful organ as the words which come of it can either build a person or destroy them! Have you ever wondered of what you are doing with it? Does your tongue articulate good speech or bad speech? Do you control it or let it on the flow? Does your tongue produce gracious words or irrelevant babble? Is it used for gossiping? Abusing? Cursing?Hurting? Or Is it used for Blessing? Encouraging? Comforting? Consoling? I am no good in using my tongue and am still working on it! The Word of God says “Death and Life are in the Power of Tongue and whoever loves it will eat its Fruits! (Proverbs 18:21). Are you reaping good or bad fruits out of your tongue? How should we use it? Lets see what the word of God says about using our tongue!
- Promote Healing instead of Hurt
We get angry and we let out words. We speak harshly and we hurt someone. We speak words such that it pierces others heart and wounds them. There is lot of pain produced in someone’s heart because of our words. Without realizing we have used our tongue to hurt others and we have never pondered on the impact. We will reap back the same words one day when we keep using our tongue to hurt and curse others. Using words of encouragement, consolation, comfort, assurance promotes healing and that is what God desires us to do. Anytime we get to use our tongue to hurt someone, lets calm down for a minute and wonder if its going to serve any purpose and what are the implications out of it? Be sure to taste your words before you spit them out!(Reference Verse: Proverbs-12.18)
- Speak the Truth instead of a Lie
Lie is one of the seven abominations which God hates. There are so much of lies around the world. We lie everyday. A simple lie can add onto a big lie. Person who is accustomed to lying will never realize that he is lying. There is a quote which says, “Some liers are so expert that they deceive themselves”. Nobody likes being lied to. Nobody likes when people deceive them with lies. Nobody likes when they realize that they believed a lie. When such is the case, how are we doing? Are we using our tongue to lie, telling tales about others, gossip about others etc? If at all if we were doing it, lets stop that and start speaking the truth. Everybody likes truth. Truth frees people. Truth brings Peace. Truth endures forever. Let us strive to be more truthful in the coming days.(Reference Verse: Proverbs-12.19)
- Restrain your Words instead of Talking Too Much
We speak too much about anything and everything. When someone wants to know something, we give them much information that they needn’t know at all. If we are discussing on any topic, we will be the ones who will be endlessly talking. Familiarity comes by talking. We become too familiar with too much of our chatting that after some days it breeds contempt. There is no hedge of hold on our tongue. It is on the loose endlessly blabbering. This never results in goodness. Some damage is done. Some confidential information is let out. Someone’s trust is broken. Someone’s life is gone. What have we achieved by talking too much? Please ponder. Let us learn a step at a time to control our too much chatting and try to talk only when it is necessary, talking only when it is the right time and talking only things that matter. Wait to speak when someone is asking you a question, think and then give your answer instead of being hasty to give a reply immediately. Try to talk right words instead of blabbering everything you know. Clutter the unnecessary things out of your mouth and keep learning to restrain your lips. This will take weeks, years to get practiced but eventually you will know better when to speak, what to speak and what not to speak. Pray and ask God for help and he will help you in taming your tongue!(Reference Verse: Proverbs-10.19,13.3,15.28,16.23)
When we learn to control our tongue and use it wisely, we will reap goodness, long life, blessing and honor and can change others lives too.
So what are you waiting for? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in using your tongue! Lets use our tongue for the benefit of others and for ourselves! Remember Death and Life are in the Power of Tongue! Choose your words Wisely! Amen!God Bless You!
