The word “Suddenly” is an adverb and it means “quickly and unexpectedly”. We would have came across many “Suddenly’s” in our life! We would have had an unexpected phone call from a long lost friend suddenly! We would have heard of a bad news suddenly! We would have had some happy surprise suddenly! All this “Suddenly’s” would have made us feel sad or excited or otherwise.

But Do you know that in the bible there were many “Suddenly” events? Each of those suddenly events had a purpose. Lets look at the some of the suddenly events/or the type of “suddenly’s” and ponder on what it teaches us!

1)When you sin and take God for granted, suddenly something happens!

The Israelite’s kept doing all kinds of sin and did not repent in-spite of the many warnings from God’s prophets those days. They tried to repent and it was short lived and they sinned again. God was angered against them and he allowed the neighboring countries to defeat them in war, take them as captives, made them go through famine etc. All these disasters were forewarned that it will happen suddenly. Isaiah 47:11 But evil will come on you Which you will not know how to charm away; And disaster will fall on you For which you cannot atone; And destruction about which you do not know Will come on you suddenly. Isaiah 30:13 Therefore this iniquity will be to you Like a breach about to fall, A bulge in a high wall, Whose collapse comes suddenly in an instant.

My dear brothers and sisters, lets not keep sinning and take God for granted. If he is a merciful God, he is a God of judgement too. Lets repent and ask for forgiveness of our sins,lest some disaster may overtake us suddenly. We have the Word of God to teach us and rebuke us, lets not be ignorant of the warnings/convictions which the Holy Spirit prompts us! If we are arrogant and keep sinning, keep ignoring the warnings of God, this is what will happen to us suddenly!

Proverbs 29: 1 He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing. Also Proverbs 6:12-15.

2)When God’s promises happen suddenly!

There are no.of events from the Bible where God has acted suddenly and has helped/blessed his people! When Israelite’s had long forgotten what worshiping in the temple was because of their wickedness, God restored the temple worship through King Hezekiah and the thing happened suddenly!(2 Chronicles 29:26). When the poor shepherds had nothing to be happy, God made them hear the good news of the birth of Jesus through angels suddenly!(Luke 2:13). When the disciples were pondering about the resurrection of Jesus and were waiting for him, Jesus appeared in the midst of them suddenly!(Luke 24:36). When the disciples were waiting and praying to God after Jesus was taken to heaven, The holy spirit was poured on them Suddenly!(Acts 2:2). When Paul and Silas were bound in chains and were in prison praising God, the Lord rescued them suddenly!(Acts 16:26).

Likewise my dear friends, you may be waiting for a long time for a miracle, a breakthrough, a happy news, or someone might be against you all the while, you may be going through a tough time.. But suddenly everything will change and you will see the promise of God happening! God’s promises never go in vain! Isaiah 48:3 I foretold the former things long ago, my mouth announced them and I made them known; then suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.

Out of nowhere, Out of the blue, Suddenly, All of the sudden, God will heal, restore, change things, deliver and bless you! Amen! God Bless You!
