The dictionary meaning of “Fear” says, “an unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm”, “be afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or harmful”. This is the fear which we experience when we are afraid of any man/thing/event etc. The fear of the Lord is not that. It is that feeling of fear which comes out of reverence and love. It is that feeling of fear which comes before committing a sin. It is that respect and adoration of God’s commandments. If a person has the fear of the Lord, he/she will love God, will walk in his commandments, will spend time in his presence and will always strive to do God’s will. God’s word talks about the many benefits God gives to his children when they fear him. Here it goes..

• Fear of the Lord brings Wisdom

The book of proverbs quotes at many places Proverbs 1:7,15:33 that the “Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom”. You need wisdom if you want to run a successful life. So if you need a successful life, you need to have wisdom given from God definitely. When you fear God and walk in his ways, God fills you with his immeasurable wisdom.

• Fear of the Lord brings Guidance

If you are unsure of the paths to take/decisions to make, you need to walk in his ways and have the fear of the Lord. Scripture says in Psalms 25:12, “Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose”.You will not have any problems in making good decisions when you fear the Lord and obey him cause God himself will teach and guide you in the way you should go.

• Fear of the Lord brings Protection

When you are in pain, going through struggles, afraid of something; the fear of the Lord will save you and protect you from all harm. You needn’t worry of anything when you fear the Lord and walks in his ways. God’s promise is given in Psalms 145:19,Proverbs 14:26,27 that, “he hears their cry and saves them”,”The Lord who has a secure fortress for those who fear him,The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,turning a person from the snares of death”.

• Fear of the Lord brings fulfillment of Desires

When you desire for something and wait for it, if you fear the Lord and walk in his ways, God is always able to fulfill the desires of your heart. He listens to your prayers and answers your requests. Word of God says in Psalms 145:19, Malachi 3:16 as, “He fulfills the desires of those who fear him”,”Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name”.

• Fear of the Lord brings Length of Life and Abundant Blessings

God says that when you fear him and walk in his ways, he will even add length to your days of life and give you all the blessings of earth and heaven. Word of God says in Psalms 31:19,Psalms 128:1-6, Proverbs 10:27,19:23 that the fear of the Lord brings length to life, blessings of family life and children, blessings in the work you do and the spiritual blessings.
